At this point in my life, I don't care too much about backing up my entire computer - the only things that really matter to me are documents, so it seems like Dropbox would suffice. One drive was also an option, but it sounded like carbonite was better. If I encrypt my files before uploading them to a cloud service, I might just use Google Drive because they give you 15G free space as opposed to Dropbox's 2G, but I prefer Dropbox's policies over Googles.ĮDIT: wow - I checked back and was surprised to see so many awesome responses! I considered using carbonite, but I wasn't sure about how private it is.
What do you think about Dropbox privacy? A few years ago, it was called out as an unsafe service that accesses other files on your computer, but this year it got a perfect privacy rating. I have a few other questions about Dropbox. I liked the simplicity of something like Dropbox. Should I use a physical method too, like a flash drive? I'm just worried about losing the flash drive, having the flash drive randomly break on me, or not being able to password protect the flash drive. Is Dropbox an acceptable way to backup a laptop? I've seen some people on reddit saying that it's a poor backup solution, even if it seems tempting, and I'm just wondering why.
